Hayward company settles claims over unlicensed software
A Hayward-based storage company has agreed to pay $52,000 to settle claims that it had unlicensed copies of software programs by Microsoft, Network Associates and Symantec on its computer networks.
In a statement Monday, the Business Software Alliance, or BSA, said A Royal Wolf Portable Storage Inc., a portable storage provider with offices in Hayward, has agreed to settle claims that it had more copies of Microsoft, Network Associates and Symantec software programs on its computers than it had licenses to support. The BSA is a watchdog group representing large software vendors.
The group said Royal Wolf agreed to delete any unlicensed copies, purchase replacement software and strengthen its software management practices. The association said Royal Wolf cooperated with its investigation, based on a tip, and voluntarily conducted a self-audit.
